Antique Boat Show
The flash of polished bronze and gleam of varnished wood across the water will be the order of the day as elegant antique and classic yachts sail into the host city of Salem, Massachusetts for the 26th Annual Antique & Classic Boat Festival August 23-24. Mostly wood, primarily private yachts and aesthetically stunning, the vessels will be on display to the public over the weekend at Hawthorne Cove Marina. A hallmark of the Festival is the great variety of craft exhibited. Soda Blast a Legendary Sailing Yacht
Soda Blasting a 1963 vintage sailing yacht with the H250-m3 series All-Media soda blast pot to remove anti fouling paint. This 54' vessel was stripped for inspection and hull repair prior to recoating with barrier seal and antifouling paint. The H258-HO-LP Multi-Media blast pot from Eco-Blast.Com, LLC provided quality stripping action without further damaging the surface. Surface damage is reduced or eliminated by being able to control the energy applied to blast the surface using ecological blasting soda at pressures as low as 30 PSI. This removal project took 16 hours and revealed blisters and other imperfections which were repaired. Sunrise Yachts was established on 10,000 square meters of Mediterranean coastline in Southern Turkey. The yacht-building facility has two halls, measuring 100 meters long (328 feet) and 16 meters (53 feet) wide, as well as a 70-meter (230-foot)-by-16-meter (53-foot) fully acclimatized, laboratory-style paint shed, that can accommodate new construction and refit projects up to 65 meters (213 feet) in length and 1,200 tons displacement. Along each side of the yacht-building facility, space is available for long-term sub-contractors with the latest equipment and logistics capabilities, along with air-conditioned storage, ventilation and extraction plants. The shipyard is organized as an "assembler," based loosely on the car industry's model, with a small, yet powerful project management team charged with running all the in-house long-term sub-contractors. We also provide contemporary amenities for visiting specialists, regulation authority representatives and Sunrise Yachts owners. Our workshops and offices were designed specifically for our team members, experienced craftsmen whose focus is to achieve a level of quality surpassing that expected by the most discriminating yachtsmen. Tall Ship Model Building Barkentine Puako c.1902 Pt.1 Priske
This video is a video log of the building of a tall ship model called the Puako c.1902. The Puako measured 221 feet on from stem to stern and was rigged as a four masted skysail Barkentine. She was part of a large fleet (23 plus ships) of nearly identical tall ships, all built to carry raw sugar from the Hawaiian Islands to the newly established C&H Sugar Refinery at Crockett, on east San Francisco Bay. This model is a 1:200th scale, was completely scratch built with all sails set and measures about 31" in her display case. It took me about 500 hours to build this museum quality scale replica. 2 Generations of boat building and racing. The Pantera boat brand became famous as a pleasure and race boat in the 70's, 80's, 90's, and 2000's. The company was once part of thunderboat row in miami, which neighbors including Cigarette Racing, Apache Powerboats, Donzi, Formula and Magnum marine to name a few. Pantera has since developed a cult like following of real offshore boating and racing enthusiasts in part because of they continue to be a custom boat builder. The Pantera customer can customize his or her boat to their exact specifications. When in doubt however, Pepe and Joe have been doing this long enough to know what makes the most sense for each customer. In this demo clip Pepe and Joe talk about a mechanical failure causing an accident at high speed that almost took their lives during the offshore powerboat worlds championships in key west. Luckily only a few days in the hospital with some minor bumps a bruises and the guys and the boat can race again with no repairs. It can be considered a small tribute to the quality craftmanship and competitive spirit of the Pantera Racing Team family.
